School of Humanities & Social Sciences is organising a Webinar on “Evolution of the concept of Human Rights in India” @ ONLINE Google meet ,
Jun 8 @ 10:30 am – 1:30 pm

“Human Rights are not a privilege conferred by government. They are every human being’s entitlement by virtue of his humanity.” -Mother Teresa

Human beings are rational beings. By virtue of their humanity, they are entitled to some rights that are necessary for their peaceful survival. To avoid conflicts in the social environment, one needs to respect the life of others. To fulfill this objective, every human is conferred with rights. These rights, in a layman language, are known as Human Rights.

The concept of human rights is not alien to Indian political thinkers and philosophers. Its existence can be notice in ancient and medieval times too but of course, it was different to the modern concept of Human Rights. After witnessing the colonial rule, every Indian was of the firm opinion that the recognition, protection and implementation of human rights are not only basic but also inalienable for them for leading a civilized life. The study of human rights with reference to Indian Constitution reveals that the Constitution enshrines almost all the human rights provided in the various international conventions, covenants and treaties.
In the above context, this webinar aims at understanding the concept of evolution of human rights in India and gives a clear outlook of the various stages and features. In this webinar, our guest Speaker Dr. Salim Javed would enlighten the participants about the multidimensional aspects of the concept of Human Rights in India.

School Of Humanities & Social Sciences is organising a Webinar on “Protection of Women against Cyber Crime: A Time Demand Need” @ ONLINE Google meet ,
Jun 9 @ 11:00 am – 2:30 pm

Cyber Crimes are crimes that happen over the web where the perpetrator of the crime, shielded by the veil of a computer screen need not establish physical contact with the victim or may not always revealed their identity. Gender-based violence, “violence that is directed against a woman because she is a woman or that affects women disproportionately” includes physical, sexual, and/or emotional (or psychological) harm and has been committed both offline and online. Referring to gender-based violence online, Powell and Henry (2017) use the term “technology-facilitated sexual violence” to describe the use of information and communication technology (ICT) “to facilitate or extend sexual and gender-based harm to victims,” including “technology enabled sexual assault;… image-based sexual abuse;…cyberstalking and criminal harassment;…online sexual harassment; and… gender-based harassment and hate speech”.

There are more than 60 crore internet users in India. According to experts, there has been a significant increase in cybercrime against women, especially sextortion, during the COVID-19-induced lockdown last year and it is increasing. Creation of fake profiles, cyber bullying, online stalking are bigger challenges at this time. Insensitive comments on posts are also intimidating. At a great extent, such cybercrimes can be prevented through education on technology as lack of awareness among women on where to reach out when something happens is one of the biggest reason behind increasing number of cybercrimes. In this webinar, our guest Speaker Dr. Subir Kumar would enlighten the participants about the multidimensional aspects of the Cyber Crimes and also, talk about the Laws that provide protection against Cyber Crimes.
