Overview

Sharda School of Design is organizing an enriching academic visit to the National Crafts Museum & Hastkala Academy and the National Gallery of Modern Art (NGMA), New Delhi. The visit will provide foundation students with an opportunity to explore India’s rich craft traditions, material culture, artistic heritage and modern and contemporary art practices. Through direct engagement with craft exhibits, artworks, museum displays and curated spaces, students will gain valuable insights into traditional craftsmanship, visual storytelling, exhibition design, spatial planning and cultural interpretation. The visit aims to broaden students’ creative perspectives by connecting art, craft, design and heritage with contemporary design education and practice.

 

Objectives of Event

The intended objectives are to:

  1. To provide students with firsthand exposure to India’s traditional crafts, artistic heritage and modern and contemporary art practices through museum and gallery visits.
  2. To familiarize students with significant modern and contemporary artworks, artistic movements and visual expressions displayed at the National Gallery of Modern Art (NGMA)
  3. To connect classroom learning with real-world experiences in art, craft, design, heritage and visual culture.
  4. To develop students’ understanding of museum display, exhibition design, curation, spatial organization, and visual storytelling.
  5. To encourage students to observe, document, interpret and draw inspiration from traditional craftsmanship and contemporary artistic practices for their own creative and design work.
  6. To broaden students’ creative perspectives and strengthen their appreciation of India’s cultural heritage and evolving art and design practices.
