About the Event:

The Department of Optometry, Sharda School of Allied Health Sciences, Sharda University, is organizing an educational visit to the National Association for the Blind (NAB) on 05 October 2026 for Bachelor of Optometry second-year and third-year students. The visit aims to provide students with practical exposure to vision rehabilitation services, special education programs, assistive technologies, Braille literacy, orientation and mobility training, and vocational rehabilitation for individuals with visual impairment.

Through this experiential learning opportunity, students will gain a deeper understanding of the challenges faced by persons with blindness and low vision, as well as the multidisciplinary approaches employed to enhance their independence and quality of life. The visit will bridge theoretical knowledge with real-world clinical and rehabilitation practices, fostering professional competence, empathy, and awareness regarding inclusive eye care and rehabilitation services.

Objectives of Event

  • To provide Bachelor of Optometry students with practical exposure to vision rehabilitation services and programs for individuals with visual impairment and blindness.
  • To familiarize students with assistive technologies, Braille literacy systems, and orientation and mobility training used in the rehabilitation of visually impaired individuals.
  • To bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and real-world rehabilitation practices through experiential learning.
  • To develop empathy, professional competence, and awareness regarding inclusive eye care and rehabilitation services for persons with visual disabilities.
