Overview

Sharda School of Allied Health Sciences, Sharda University, is organizing an “Outreach and Awareness Program on Diabetes Mellitus in a Rural Area of Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh, in collaboration with NSS, Sharda University” on 08 October 2026.

About the Event

Diabetes mellitus is a major public health concern and is increasingly affecting both urban and rural populations in India. Limited awareness regarding risk factors, symptoms, dietary practices, physical activity, complications, and the importance of early screening may result in delayed diagnosis and inadequate disease management, particularly in rural communities. Community-based health education and screening programs can play an important role in improving awareness, encouraging healthy lifestyle practices, and promoting timely identification of individuals who may be at risk of diabetes.

The proposed “Outreach and awareness program on Diabetes Mellitus in rural area” is a community outreach initiative designed to create awareness about diabetes mellitus and its prevention while promoting the importance of early detection and regular health monitoring. The program will involve Medical Laboratory Technology students, working under the guidance of a Biochemist and Microbiologist, to provide structured health education and support appropriate basic screening activities.

Through interaction with community members, the program will address diabetes risk factors, warning signs and symptoms, healthy dietary practices, physical activity, prevention of complications, infection prevention, and the importance of appropriate laboratory investigations and regular medical follow-up. The initiative will also provide Medical Laboratory Technology students with practical exposure to community-oriented healthcare, health education, laboratory-based disease prevention, and interdisciplinary professional practice, while contributing to improved diabetes awareness and health literacy among the rural population of Greater Noida.

Objectives of Event

  1. To create awareness about diabetes mellitus, including its types, causes, risk factors, signs, symptoms, and common complications.
  2. To promote awareness of diabetes prevention through appropriate dietary practices, regular physical activity, healthy body weight, and other lifestyle modifications.
  3. To create awareness about the relationship between diabetes and infections, including increased susceptibility to certain infections in individuals with poorly controlled diabetes.
  4. To involve Medical Laboratory Technology students in community-oriented healthcare activities, enabling them to apply their theoretical knowledge in health education, laboratory medicine, disease prevention, and community engagement.
