Overview

The activity is being conducted under the initiative of Community Connect cell & Biotechnology department to evaluate the socio-economic conditions of Economically Weaker Section (EWS) households by deploying three specialized survey modules: General Health Profiles, Tobacco Consumption (GATS framework), and Food Safety & WASH parameters. By collecting real-time quantitative responses alongside qualitative interviews and FGDs, participating students generate rigorous, evidence-based primary research to fulfill their course learning objectives and support community-centric action.

Objectives of Event

·    Establish Rural Baseline Health Metrics: Map disease prevalence, chronic health conditions, and healthcare accessibility across EWS families to identify unmet medical and public health needs.

  • Assess Tobacco Consumption & Risk Factors: Apply Global Adult Tobacco Survey (GATS) parameters to quantify smokeless and smoked tobacco usage patterns, secondhand exposure, and cessation awareness among rural populations.

  • Evaluate Hygiene, Water, and Food Safety Standards: Examine household access to clean drinking water, functional sanitation facilities, handwashing habits, and safe food storage practices to mitigate water- and food-borne illnesses.

  • Integrate Quantitative Data with Ground Realities: Combine large-scale digital survey logging with qualitative field discussions (FGDs/interviews) to understand community perceptions, cultural nuances, and systemic challenges.
